THREE major dams in Luzon — Ambuklao, Binga and Magat — have opened their gates to release water to avert possible overflow due to the effects of the southwest monsoon or “habagat.”
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said one gate of Ambuklao Dam was unlocked to release water measured at 0.30 meter (m) or an outflow of 71.82 centimeters (cms).
The dam, located in Benguet province, has a water level of 751.39 m. Its spilling level is 752 m.
Pagasa said the Binga dam, also located in the same province, had one floodgate opened as of 8 a.m. on Sept. 8, 2025, with an outflow of 81.05 cm.
Binga’s reservoir level is at 573.93 m, just -1.10 m away from its spilling level.
Meanwhile, two gates of Magat Dam in Isabela province have been opened by 2 meters as it releases water with an outflow of 911.78 cm.

The Angat Dam, located in Norzagaray, Bulacan, and the main source of water supply for Metro Manila and irrigation needs for adjoining provinces, is still far from its spilling level, Pagasa said.
